Mix Of The Day: Frenk Wiersma (creative director A Day At The Park) live ‘ADATP 2012 countdown’

This set has been recorded live on the 22nd of June in Doornroosje, Nijmegen during the first night of Evotions’ Extrawelt weekender. It’s a 3 hours set, and it captures the first 3 hours of the night. It starts slowly, but is always flowly which builds to the live-set of Extrawelt. It reflects the  musical ideas of Frenk Wiersma about what electronic dance music should be on the mainstage of A Day at the Park.

Introducing: DJ Ben Santiago

Ben Santiago is one of the White Isle’s most prolific DJs. Since moving to Ibiza seven years ago he has held a number of enviable residencies and played for the biggest brands in the industry, including; Café del Mar, Cream, Pacha, Base Bar, El Divino, Ibiza Rocks, Cocoon, Amnesia, Es Vive, Manumission, and Hed Kandi – who  have appointed him Ibiza resident for the third year running at their parties at Es Paradis in 2012. He is also an official A&R scout for Hed Kandi / Ministry of Sound, helping compile the music for their world famous compilations.

Internationally, Ben is musical director for Berlin Fashion Week and spins at fashion shows and private soirées for Dolce & Gabbana throughout Europe and Asia alongside saxophonist (and fiancée) Lovely Laura. The pair are also signed to Storm models and perform all over the world at exclusive events for A-list clients such as supermodel Eva Herzigova and Pink Floyd.

Appreciated for his truly Balearic approach (as showcased on his weekly Ministry Of Sound radio show and guest mix on Hed Kandi’s Beach House 2011), Ben is just as passionate spinning eclectic sets at villa and beach parties or on catwalks and yachts as he is delivering straight up house tunes in a club. His success is based on a simple premise: “Whatever the genre, if a track is going to connect with the audience then I’ll play it…”.

Universal Music Group launches EDM-focused label PM:AM Recordings

At a time when electronic dance music continues to pummel its way into the forefront of music consumption and while musical barriers are being demolished by the day, dance savvy executives at Universal Music Group have formed their own internal EDM music alliance.

PM:AM Recordings is formed of a unique set-up combining the A&R talents of Universal bosses from around the world. Each record signed to the label will have been screened through some of the most acutely tuned ears in the business, and in turn each release will receive worldwide synchronicity.

Universal already has significant pedigree in executing dance records such as Avicii’s recent ‘Levels’ and ‘Silhouettes’, and Universal’s PM:AM will focus solely on bringing in the same calibre of records that currently dominate the airwaves of Radio 1 and festivals alike to the ears of millions of consumers.

A firm favourite amongst the underground dance brigade for many months now, Sebastian Ingrosso and protégé Alesso’s colossal ‘Calling (Lose My Mind)’ has been getting some serious love and attention in mainstream circles of late. Daytime playlisted on BBC Radio 1 and the Capital Radio Network – this track has catapulted the up and coming Alesso to household status in a matter of weeks, as he now looks set to replicate the incredibly successful career of his legendary mentor. The official video, featuring captivating Coachella 2012 footage and a surprise special guest appearance from vocalist Ryan Tedder is out now.
