Tune Of The Day: Spandau Ballet vs. Basto! – Gold 2012

Basto is Belgium’s freshest EDM export and is well known for his melodic brand of feel good progressive house music. His latest remix is set to become an absolute dance floor destroyer reworking classic 80’s pop royalty Spandau Ballet and their global hit Gold.

Teaming Tony Hadley’s unmistakably powerful vocals with a banging main room electronic vibe, Basto has turned the 1983 track into a contemporary dance track that is equally at home on the dancefloors as it will be on the terraces of the country’s Olympic stadia. Instantly recognizable as the Spandau Ballet hit, established fans and clubbers alike will be singing along to the catchy chorus. Spandau Ballet are no strangers to dance music. They were there at the start of the DJ culture in the late 1970s and early 80s in the clubs of Soho and throughout Europe and the world. The band were one of the first white bands to release a 12“ remix of their singles, in particular To Cut Along Story Short, an era-defining slice of electronic myth-making which took them to a huge audience, out of the clubs and into the charts. Followed closely by Chant No.1 (We Don’t Need This Pressure On), a mix of contemporary funk and modern vibes, Spandau Ballet were the coolest band in town.

Basto’s re-take of Gold manages to mix a more aggressive electronic sound with the ingredients of an energy anthem, all over an indestructible bass. It’s a strong step up from his previous big room hits like the tantalizing Gregory’s Theme, the addictive Again & Again, atmospheric Cloudbreaker (with Yves V) and gives a massive nod to his current Beatport chart topping monster, I Rave You.

As Basto himself says: When I first decided to remix “Gold” by Spandau Ballet, I. hesitated for a moment.  Usually, I’m very sceptical when it comes to reworking classics. Why would you wanna take the risk to ruin an epic record? But we managed to make it a very relevant dance track, without losing the gist of the original. It’s not a remix of an old track anymore, it’s a cool record with an epic vocal”

Basto is constantly heading club charts with his remixes including Kylie MinogueThe Wanted, Ed Sheeran and Flo-Rida to the recent smash hit  212 from Azelia Banks featuring Lazy Jay, Conor Maynard, Stooshe ft. Travie McCoy, Lil John ft. LMFAOLabrinthMoby and Sander Van Doorn.

OUT NOW exclusively on Beatport.

Alexander Popov – When The Sun (Official Music Video)

To Russian producer Alexander Popov, there’s much more on the horizon than that big, warm globe of fire. With his new beat-beauty ‘When The Sun’, he once again proves to be able to capture the senses and tingle our world.

Throughout the course of 5 years, Alexander Popov has worked himself up as one of EDM’s ‘names to watch out for’. ‘Everest’, ‘Revolution In You’ and his latest tune ‘Elegia’, as well as remixes for Armin van Buuren, Susana and M6, have made his sound a sound well-treasured. ‘When The Sun’ is next in line to build him a solid discography.

But most of all, to indulge the masses. This light-hearted rocktronica bit of prog-trance easily gets under your skin. Its contagious vocals and easy melodic flow will get stuck in your mind in no time.

Tune Of The Day: Roger Shah feat. Inger Hansen – Dance With Me

Melting the warm voice of Inger Hansen and the Balearic touch of Roger Shah into one, is their new collab ‘Dance With Me’. Taken from Shah’s ‘Openminded?!’ album, this one lights the deepest hours of night.

If you’re looking for the perfect fusion of Balearic and rock, you’ll definitely fall in love with the collabs of Roger Shah and Inger Hansen. Both having their roots in Germany and sharing a big passion for passion , resulted in 3 magical collaborations already. Now that ‘Breaking Waves’ and ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’ have resounded, it’s time for ‘Dance With Me’ to warm your nights. Driven by guitar, led by Inger’s deep and powerful voice and riding a strong melody, ‘Dance With Me’ moves you on the inside.
