De Panama invites avonden staan altijd garant voor de beste internationale DJ’s, En de overweldigende set van Dave Seaman  tijdens zijn laatste bezoek aan Panama heeft bij vele fans een onvergetelijke indruk achter gelaten. Dus op veler verzoek Panama invites Dave Seaman!

Op zaterdag 8 september betreedt hij samen met zijn Nederlandse collega en vriend C-Jay het podium van Panama. Met deze overheerlijke line-up belooft het  een legendarische muzikale trip in Panama te worden.

Deze, uit Leeds (UK) afkomstige veteraan draait al zeker 20 jaar mee in de dance scène. Als eerste editor van club-bijbel ‘Mixmag’, succesvol producent voor onder meer U2, Kylie, Michael Jackson, David Bowie en The Pet Shop Boys is deze man met recht een allround, multi-talent te noemen. Dave heeft ook meer dan 20 mixcompilaties voor gerenomeerde labels als Renaissance en Global Underground op zijn naam staan, kenners weten dat deze eer niet zomaar eenieder toekomt. Hij is ook de drijvende kracht achter een aantal onafhankelijke dance-labels zoals Stress Records en Audio Therapy. Om nog maar te zwijgen over zijn ‘buitenschoolse activiteiten’ als Levi’s model en BBC presentator. Deze man kan met recht zeggen: ‘…been there, done that!’.

C-Jay
C-jay werkt al jaren aan een onafgebroken stroom van top producties die wereldwijd door de allergrootste dj opgepikt worden.  Verwacht bij C-jay een combinatie van house, tech-house, deep electronic en progressive. Oftewel C-Jay samen met Dave Seaman, een gouden combinatie tijdens Panama invites!

New release: Markus Schulz – Scream

Back in June 2010 one of the world’s most inventive electronic music minds released the artist album odyssey that was ‘Do You Dream?’ Fan applause, cross-genre DJ support and dance press acclaim greeted one chart-scaling, master-blasting single after another.

From ‘Do You Dream’s day of release though, Markus Schulz had already begun imagining and conceiving the sound designs that would go to make up his next long-playing excursion.

Now, comprising a 19-track packed collection of ear catching, floor quenching, seismic audio, his ‘Dream’ is about to turn into a mighty ‘Scream’!

“When you’re in the studio, deep in production mode on an album, your mind’s eye is forever picturing the reactions tracks, and moments in tracks, are going to generate”, says Markus. So in many respects the title ‘Scream’ is also the album’s mission statement. It’s that response, that surge of feeling and emotion I want to come back up off the floor when one of its tracks goes on. When it happens, you know all the late hours in the studio, putting the pieces in place, have been worth it!”

With a single-minded quality-meets-quantity credo, Markus has made judicious use of known vocal talent and new singer/songwriter blood on the album. These include US-based sensations Jaren and Aruna, as well as Paper Aeroplanes front-woman Sarah Howells. Also front-and-centre are precocious newer talents, with the likes of Seri and new Schulz discovery-cum-protégée, Adina Butar joining ‘Scream’s vocal cast.

Giving the album a strong song-edged bias has resulted in one with productions that span EDM’s spectrum.

For every daytime radio inciting number (‘Until It’s Gone’, ‘Love Rain Down On Me’ and current single ‘Caught’ to tag but a few), there’s also the more underground themes of tracks like ‘Deep In The Night’, ‘Absolution’ and the album’s thrilling title track. During the final weeks of ‘Scream’s production Schulz commented:“one of the side-effects of producing instrumental long-players like my Dakota ‘Thoughts Become Things’ series is that you keenly feel how much you miss working with lyrics and vocals. ‘Scream’ will be my most vocal-oriented album yet and I believe that the singer-song-writing talent I’ve collaborated with, it will also make for my most accomplished”.

‘Scream’ isn’t exclusively about the vocal though. Building the consummate 360° electronic music album requires contrast and that comes firmly into focus with its heart-of-the-dancefloor seeking instrumentals. From the scene-setting beat-free overture of ‘Our Moment’ to the serrated synthery of floor-ammo like ‘Triotronic’, ‘Soul Seeking’ and ‘Loops n Things’ (with Ferry Corsten) it delivers a comprehensive, panoramic, day-or-night-time listening experience.

Through it Schulz has once again demonstrated that the production side of his mind is alive, kicking and quite literally screaming to be turned loose. And on August 31st that’s exactly what will happen.

Planet EDM will never be quite the same again.

Remix Of The Day: Rihanna – Where Have You Been

After the break up of his former musical focus, Sydney-based producer Streetcleaner shifted over to the realms of electronic dance music around mid- 2011. This previous musical experience lends itself to his driving and complex style of electro house, as well as the influence of artists such as Porter Robinson, Dirtyloud and Darth & Vader. His laptop and Logic Studio are the main weapons of choice Streetcleaner uses too channel this influence into explosive, hard- hitting dance music, along with Native Instruments’ Massive and various plugins and VSTs.

While only hitting the production scene fairly recently, Streetcleaner has already shown significant potential for such a short amount of time. Even more promise is expected for 2012 for Streetcleaner, with a number of releases lined up for the future, and even bigger plans awaiting in the long-run. His release schedule for 2012 includes five massive electro dance floor destroyers, Shoreside, The Jade Monkey, FThree, Badlands and the anticipated Zenith EP.

Miss Monica neemt afscheid van Classics

Op zaterdag 1 september draait Miss Monica haar allerlaatste classics/oldschool set. Ze is klaar met het draaien van deze muziekstijl die zij al sinds 1993 met veel plezier heeft gedraaid en kondigt een grote ommekeer aan.

Bij haar fans staat ze er bekend om: Miss Monica draait muziek met haar hart en dat is duidelijk te zien en te horen tijdens haar optredens. Ondanks haar volle agenda heeft ze besloten om niet langer die muziek te draaien waarvoor ze met grote regelmaat wordt geboekt: classics en oldschool. Na haar bezoek aan de beruchte Club Berghain in Berlijn en Kiesgrube in Duitsland heeft Monica definitief de keuze gemaakt om het “oude” achter zich te laten en zich volledig op het nieuwe te gaan richten: deephouse, techhouse en funky techno, wat niet onbekend is voor deze Grande Dame de House Musique.

Miss Monica begon – nadat ze zelf als bezoeker van de eerste feesten al geruime tijd bevangen was door het housevirus – in 1993 met draaien. Dit pakt bijzonder goed uit en binnen een jaar krijgt ze al een vaste avond in de Rotterdamse club Nighttown. Al snel stromen de boekingen binnen en zet ze zichzelf binnen korte tijd op de kaart. Helaas moet ze in 1998 de “concurrentie” voorbij laten gaan wanneer ze door het chronische vermoeidheidssyndroom ME, niet langer door kan gaan met draaien. Na vijf jaar maakt Monica in het jaar 2004 een indrukwekkende comebacktour en is zij weer terug van weggeweest.

Miss Monica is duidelijk over haar besluit: “Ik heb mij de afgelopen jaren anders ontwikkeld in mijn persoonlijkheid op energetisch en emotioneel niveau. Dit geeft ook duidelijk een afdruk weer op mijn draaien en muziekkeuze. Stond ik vroeger aardig te stampen, sta ik nu te grooven en mooie tunes te draaien op 126 bpm. Ik ga 100% links of rechts af, omdat ik dit nodig heb voor mijn muzikale ziel. Ik had al langer het gevoel dat ik geen voldoening meer uit mijn sets haalde, en als ik mijn hart volg is dit een logische stap.”

In het Recreatiegebied Spaarnwoude te Halfweg neemt Miss Monica op zaterdag 1 september – tijdens het Wooferland festival – afscheid van haar classics en oldschool tunes tijdens een op voorhand al legendarische set. Als house classics festival is Wooferland dé plek voor het afsluiten van een tijdperk.
