One of the most creative families on earth has released yet another  awesome hybrid of ear slamming, nasty, jumpy electro and familiar Shermanology signature vocal progressive house. ‘The Only Way’ can lift crowds to ultimate heights. Festival main stage banger all the way!

Ever since this talented family, inspired by jazz, funk and soul, formed a solid dance act, they were an extremely popular name at clubs and festivals. Their unique sound in electronic music is like nothing heard on the clubland circuit now, and not ever.

They started as Andy and Dorothy, musically schooled by their Father and Uncle who were soul artists in their own right, The Sherman Brothers. Growing up with an appreciation of the greats, the pair only listened to the finest funk artists – Prince, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Bebe & Cece Winans and Earth Wind & Fire. In 2006 they released ‘3 Minutes To Explain’. This enormous club track was alongside the 2 greats, Fedde Le Grand and Funkerman, which validated the duo’s colossal potential. Leon Sherman then entered the frame to create once of the most diverse music families around.

Shermanology’s most recent release, ‘Can’t Stop Me’, a collaboration with superstar Afrojack, was a huge dance hit and made it’s way to almost every dance floor worldwide. As for fresh release ‘The Only Way’, the prognosis says this will be this summer’s next big club banger. ‘The Only Way’ is already supported by the world’s top notch DJ’s such as Steve Aoki, R3hab, Thomas Gold and played in international radio shows by Sander van Doorn, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Nicky Romero, Afrojack and David Guetta.

Miss Monica neemt afscheid van Classics

Op zaterdag 1 september draait Miss Monica haar allerlaatste classics/oldschool set. Ze is klaar met het draaien van deze muziekstijl die zij al sinds 1993 met veel plezier heeft gedraaid en kondigt een grote ommekeer aan.

Bij haar fans staat ze er bekend om: Miss Monica draait muziek met haar hart en dat is duidelijk te zien en te horen tijdens haar optredens. Ondanks haar volle agenda heeft ze besloten om niet langer die muziek te draaien waarvoor ze met grote regelmaat wordt geboekt: classics en oldschool. Na haar bezoek aan de beruchte Club Berghain in Berlijn en Kiesgrube in Duitsland heeft Monica definitief de keuze gemaakt om het “oude” achter zich te laten en zich volledig op het nieuwe te gaan richten: deephouse, techhouse en funky techno, wat niet onbekend is voor deze Grande Dame de House Musique.

Miss Monica begon – nadat ze zelf als bezoeker van de eerste feesten al geruime tijd bevangen was door het housevirus – in 1993 met draaien. Dit pakt bijzonder goed uit en binnen een jaar krijgt ze al een vaste avond in de Rotterdamse club Nighttown. Al snel stromen de boekingen binnen en zet ze zichzelf binnen korte tijd op de kaart. Helaas moet ze in 1998 de “concurrentie” voorbij laten gaan wanneer ze door het chronische vermoeidheidssyndroom ME, niet langer door kan gaan met draaien. Na vijf jaar maakt Monica in het jaar 2004 een indrukwekkende comebacktour en is zij weer terug van weggeweest.

Miss Monica is duidelijk over haar besluit: “Ik heb mij de afgelopen jaren anders ontwikkeld in mijn persoonlijkheid op energetisch en emotioneel niveau. Dit geeft ook duidelijk een afdruk weer op mijn draaien en muziekkeuze. Stond ik vroeger aardig te stampen, sta ik nu te grooven en mooie tunes te draaien op 126 bpm. Ik ga 100% links of rechts af, omdat ik dit nodig heb voor mijn muzikale ziel. Ik had al langer het gevoel dat ik geen voldoening meer uit mijn sets haalde, en als ik mijn hart volg is dit een logische stap.”

In het Recreatiegebied Spaarnwoude te Halfweg neemt Miss Monica op zaterdag 1 september – tijdens het Wooferland festival – afscheid van haar classics en oldschool tunes tijdens een op voorhand al legendarische set. Als house classics festival is Wooferland dé plek voor het afsluiten van een tijdperk. Tune Of The Day: Spandau Ballet vs. Basto! – Gold 2012

Basto is Belgium’s freshest EDM export and is well known for his melodic brand of feel good progressive house music. His latest remix is set to become an absolute dance floor destroyer reworking classic 80’s pop royalty Spandau Ballet and their global hit Gold.

Teaming Tony Hadley’s unmistakably powerful vocals with a banging main room electronic vibe, Basto has turned the 1983 track into a contemporary dance track that is equally at home on the dancefloors as it will be on the terraces of the country’s Olympic stadia. Instantly recognizable as the Spandau Ballet hit, established fans and clubbers alike will be singing along to the catchy chorus. Spandau Ballet are no strangers to dance music. They were there at the start of the DJ culture in the late 1970s and early 80s in the clubs of Soho and throughout Europe and the world. The band were one of the first white bands to release a 12“ remix of their singles, in particular To Cut Along Story Short, an era-defining slice of electronic myth-making which took them to a huge audience, out of the clubs and into the charts. Followed closely by Chant No.1 (We Don’t Need This Pressure On), a mix of contemporary funk and modern vibes, Spandau Ballet were the coolest band in town.

Basto’s re-take of Gold manages to mix a more aggressive electronic sound with the ingredients of an energy anthem, all over an indestructible bass. It’s a strong step up from his previous big room hits like the tantalizing Gregory’s Theme, the addictive Again & Again, atmospheric Cloudbreaker (with Yves V) and gives a massive nod to his current Beatport chart topping monster, I Rave You.

As Basto himself says: “When I first decided to remix “Gold” by Spandau Ballet, I. hesitated for a moment.  Usually, I’m very sceptical when it comes to reworking classics. Why would you wanna take the risk to ruin an epic record? But we managed to make it a very relevant dance track, without losing the gist of the original. It’s not a remix of an old track anymore, it’s a cool record with an epic vocal”   

Basto is constantly heading club charts with his remixes including Kylie Minogue, The Wanted, Ed Sheeran and Flo-Rida to the recent smash hit  212 from Azelia Banks featuring Lazy Jay, Conor Maynard, Stooshe ft. Travie McCoy, Lil John ft. LMFAO, Labrinth, Moby and Sander Van Doorn.

Thirties – The Summer Edition

Thirties is hét eerste exclusieve dertigers event van Zuid Kennemerland.

Zaterdag 9 juni is het tijd voor Thirties – The Summer Edition die plaats zal vinden in het prachtige landhuis Duinlust te Overveen. Met twee zalen met twee soorten muziek (disco & 80s, 90s-nu), een heerlijk zonnig terras en bordes waar je ook kan dansen en een drankje doen bij mooi weer, een groot scherm waarop je het Nederlands elftal kan zien spelen vanaf 18.00 plus meer verrassingen belooft het een bijzondere editie te worden!
